How to get to Bochum

Bochum is well-integrated into the German rail- and road-networks. You can reach Bochum in the following ways:

The fast train connections (ICE, IC and EC) that run though the Ruhr-Area have regular halts at Bochum's main station, every day around 60 fast trains stop in Bochum. Most parts of Germany can be reached from here within a few hours, e.g. it takes 3 hours to journey to Hamburg, a journey to Berlin can be completed in 3 hours and 30 minutes, travel to Munich will take less than 6 hours.

Moreover, Bochum is linked to its neighbouring cities by a number of regional train (RE) lines and by two "S-Bahn" connections. Travelling to the adjacent cities of Essen and Dortmund will require about 10 minutes in the RE.

By car

Germany has an extensive and – for cars – free to use network of motorways. Two of the main motorway-axes run through Bochum. In the North-South direction the A43 and the A1 that connect Hamburg and Cologne, in the West-East direction the A40 and the A 44 which start in the Netherlands and continue towards Kassel.

By air

The closest international airport, Dortmundoff-site link, can be reached on public transport 40 minutes, or in 30 minutes travelling by car. Travel on the "Airport Express" (shuttle-bus from Dortmund Central Station) will at the moment cost 5,50 €off-site link.

The international airport Düsseldorfoff-site link can be reached by train in 35 minutes, or in 45 minutes travelling by car. Travel on the "Regionalexpress" (RE 1, RE 11 or RE 6) will at the moment cost around 10,50 €off-site link.

The international airports Cologne-(Köln-)Bonnoff-site link and Münster-Osnabrückoff-site link are about one hour's car journey away, they, too, can be reached on public transport.
