In 2003, the AKAFÖ established a Tutor Programme as a scheme to support the integration of international students and to help the students to familiarize themselves with the new environment Mustafa Akpinar has been working as an international tutor since November 2003, and since 2006 he is a supervisor for tutors.

So-called "hall tutors" support Akpinar's work in the 18 students hall of residence of the AKAFÖ in Bochum. They respresent a cross-section of nationalities living in the houses and help him to stay in touch with the every day life in the halls. Not only do the tutors have office hours but also they attend floor-meetings and organise various like film nights or international cook-ins.
