Social contribution

Every semester the universities receive a certain "social contribution" (Sozialbeitrag) which is used to finance the "Semesterticket" (season ticket for free travel in the VRR-area), the student welfare contribution for the "Studentenwerk" and the student self-administration (the student union, "AStA" and the student representation in the faculties). All students have to pay the social contribution, but it is not related to tuition fees. Both the social contribution and the tuition fees have to be paid.

Tuition fees

In Nordrhein-Westfalen you don't have not to pay an additional tuition fee.
