Social contribution

Every semester the universities receive a certain "social contribution" (Sozialbeitrag) which is used to finance the "Semesterticket" (season ticket for free travel in the VRR-area), the student welfare contribution for the "Studentenwerk" and the student self-administration (the student union, "AStA" and the student representation in the faculties). All students have to pay the social contribution, but it is not related to tuition fees. Both the social contribution and the tuition fees have to be paid.

The social contribution of the Ruhr-University will be about 254,- €. This link will have the current values for the Ruhr-University.

The social contribution at the Hochschule Bochum will be about 256,- €. This link will have the current values for the Hochschule Bochum.

The social contribution of the Technische Fachhochschule Bochum will be about 170,- €. This link will have the current values for the TFH.

The social contribution of the Evangelische Fachhochschule will be about 245,44 €. This link will have the current values for the EFH.

The social contribution of the Hochschule für Gesundheit will be about 240,- €. This link have the current values for the HSG.

Tuition fees

In Nordrhein-Westfalen you might have to pay an additional tuition fee. This also varies from one university to the next but will be about 500,- € per semester. This does not include the social fees from above. Both will have to be paid.
